Vaelian Frelle never knew his parents, but was instead placed in the care of the priestesses of the Shadow Queen, goddess of death and lost souls, soon after birth. His childhood was wracked with fiery rebellion against those who took him in. Despite this, they recognized his inherent talents and began training him as one of the Hands of Shadow, an elite group of holy assassins. He found solace in the Shadow Queen’s teachings, and grew into a dark, brooding man. His skill with a blade was unmatched by any student in the temple, and his flair for the acrobatic earned him the title the “Flying Shadow”. Upon his 20th year he was graduated from his training, and began service to his master.
Vaelian’s first mission found him in the city of Kalkrath, where he was to assassinate a man named Quellin, however, this proved to be more difficult than what his Queen lead on. Through his contact, Phineas, he had heard that a party of adventurers had been looking for him as well. He followed them, secretly, throughout the city until they arrived at Perseclea’s tower. He felt it was foolish of them to venture in unprepared and alone, given the mage’s current predicament. He laid in wait, praying to the Shadow Queen for guidance. She graced him with the vision of the mighty Ragnar’s death, and he decided to join their group for now, but he would not hesitate to kill them if they got in his way. For now the group served his purpose.
Physical Description: Vaelian is about 5’11, 150 lbs, shaggy white hair, green eyes and pale skinned. A weathered black hooded, cloak covers his back, and his tattered black leather armour is interlaced with bits of robes bearing the emblems of the Shadow Queen. A great-sword bearing the runes common to his deity is strapped to his back, and throwing-daggers are sheathed in holsters attached to armor on his thighs. His knee-high black boots have bits of plate metal attached to them at knee, achilies tendon and bridge of the foot.
